22 Sep Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, Why aren’t cancer patients informed of natural therapies?
Surgery, Chemotherapy, and Radiation, that’s it? Those are the care choices given by our medical system. But there is so much more out there!! Yesterday, I watched a man cry, asking what more could he have done for his wife, he said she is now suffering from Chemo-Brain. She is in her early 40’s, and now is dealing with what looks like alzheimers, after what he described as almost torture going through chemotherapy. No one, throughout her cancer care treatment, told him what more could be done besides surgery, chemo, and radiation. The truth is there is a lot everyone can do beyond “cut, poison, and burn”, your doctor might not be telling you what those other care choices are.
Mother nature is a genius. There is an abundance of foods that will help your body fight cancer. Cruciferous veggies are awesome. Something as simple as broccoli, helps stop breast cancer cells from growing by shutting off a key enzyme nessessary for growth. It activates a “tumor suppression” gene. It prevents initial tumor growth by increasing a substance called interferon. You can make a simple simple foods, like soup that you can drink cold, take to work, and drink up. Check out my recipe page for recipe ideas, a couple of soups, broccoli, and other veggies.
You can help your body fight cancer by making the fight a little more fair. Stop polluting your body with toxins that are helping cancer win. Where are the toxins you ask? Pretty much everywhere, but once you know how to identify them, they get easier and easier to avoid. Take toxins out of you skin lotions, shampoos, soaps, anything that you put on your skin, by using products made by companies that advertise no Lauryl/Laureth Sulfates, no parabens or phthalates. Miessence is a good start, their products are certified organic (organic meaning no toxins), check them out on my product suggestion page. If you are adding toxins to your body, then your body needs to fight to get rid of them at a time when you are already fighting against cancer. Get toxins out of your foods by not buying processed foods with things like hydrolized fats, corn derivatives like corn fructose. If you can’t figure out the ingredient, don’t eat it. Buy organic. Check out the Budwig Diet. Remember, your body is fighting against cancer everyday. So what you eat, spread on your body, breath into your lungs is either helping cancer win, or helping to fight back against cancer. So choose wisely.
Take care of yourself, exercise. Just move. Find a friend to walk with. Join a gym, ride a bike, pick up a tennis racket, buy a DVD on pilates, get a jump rope, garden, dance. Just get up off the couch, turn off the little box with all those reality people, and live your own reality, People!
Read up, if you or a loved one is touched by cancer, pick up a book. Check out my favorites on my book suggestion page. Wake up that Warrior Goddess, and fire her up by reading Waking the Warrior Goddess by Dr. Christine Horner, this book is a great start, you need to put this tool in your tool box, you need to know how to fight this fight, and this book will teach you.
I can’t imagine the agony, after going through cancer treatments for 2 years, and asking what more could I have done to help my spouse. I wondered about the pack of cigarettes in the man’s shirt pocket. He is not the first person that I know who could not give up cigarettes while dealing with cancer, and it is not for me to judge him. We have to help each other connect the dots, point out the obvious, and the not so obvious. We are all in this fight against cancer together.
