The Choices We Make

The Choices We Make

There are three entities in our government system that use up 70% of our taxes, Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaide. We are a country that spends very little on healthy food, favoring the cheapest foods. Our government will subsidize farmers for growing crops like corn, a commodity that is quickly making us sick, and helping to make our planet sick. Corn, has become a food from a chemists lab, with corn’s many derivities that fill our prepackaged foods. Corn derivities are making us overweight, diabetic, along with a host of other health problems. Our Goverment will buy back, or subsidize milk from farmers using Growth hormones. These hormones are changing the hormonal levels in children, causing girls to mature at younger ages. Our government is actually subsidizing a system that ensures that our population stays overweight, unhealthy, and hormonally imbalanced.

We are a country that puts such an money emphasis on disease, can you imagine if that same emphasis was put on prevention? According to the China Study, there are 94,000 diseases that are attributed to diet. If we put energy into growing, and getting clean healthy foods to our tables, foods that help prevent cancer, and other diseases, I imagine we would not be argueing about balancing a budget. Clean up our diet, and we have just solved the problem of excessive cost of health care. The system is a mess, and it is not going to get fixed from the top down. It needs to start from the bottom up, grass roots, If we all took responsibility for our small part in this mess by starting to clean up our food act. That’s where it starts, small, because it starts in our own kitchens, with the choices we make.
